Accreditation for
Breast Cancer Detection Center

We are pleased to announce that the Q.E.H.C. has received its renewal for official status as one of 16 Accredited Breast Cancer Detection Centers in Quebec. All women aged 50-69 are mailed notices to make sure that they receive a free mammogram as part of a screening program to fight breast cancer. The Q.E.H.C. Imaging Department now processes over 6,000 mammograms per year and has recently purchased a new automated multiviewer to read mammograms.

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS

The Q.E.H.C. held its annual volunteer luncheon on April 25/2007 at the Pasta Casareccia.  After a delicious lunch, we thanked our hard-working volunteers with gifts and flowers.  The following special anniversaries were marked with pins:

  • Thelma Legassic-5 years
  • Thérèse Foucher-10 years
  • Gerald Cahill-20 years
We thank them all for contributing so much time and energy to the complex and for making the Q.E.H.C. such a special place.

STRATEGIC PLANNING 2007

The Q.E.H.C. would like to thank all of the tenants who participated in providing information for our strategic planning during a session held at the Anglican Church on June 18th, 2007.  A lot of very useful information was exchanged on that day.  We thank those tenants for taking time out of their busy day to take part in this and Giovanni Monti for the wonderful lunch.

ART FOR HEALING FOUNDATION

As you may have noticed, many areas of the first floor have been recently filled with beautiful framed prints.  We are grateful to Earl Pinchuk and Gary Blair of the ART FOR HEALING FOUNDATION for this generous donation.  This wonderful foundation is committed to bringing the healing power of art to hospitals and other healthcare facilities.  We thank them for selecting the Q.E.H.C. for this innovative project.

SITE UPDATE

Many of you may have noticed the new signage on the inside and outside of the complex.  Many of the small, indoor signs have also been replaced using more professional lettering.  The center area at the Northcliffe entrance has been replaced by a small garden and ashtrays have been installed on the wall facing the sidewalk.  Hopefully, this will discourage people from throwing cigarette butts into that area.  As well, an automatic sprinkler system has been installed into the landscaping on Northcliffe to help keep it green.

Q.E.H.C. is currently looking into replacing its original outdated furnaces with a more energy efficient system.  The use of new furnaces would generate substantial savings as the cost of energy is extremely high.

UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN

On May 3rd 2007, for its fourth consecutive year, the Queen Elizabeth Health Complex Community Services held its annual wine tasting event «Under the Tuscan Sun».  Over $82,000 was raised on that evening to benefit the QEHC. For additional information or to view photos, please click here.
